Provision of 80 kW Combined Heat and Power unit at an Asphalt producing plant (South Africa)
Summary:
The client’s plant produces hot asphalt products through the drying and heating of sand and stone in a rotary drier. The mixing of the dried hot aggregate with bitumen binders, forms the final asphalt product for use in road, airports, and other applications, for base & surfacing.
Solutions proposed and accepted by client pending final detailed design:
To provide for the electrical requirements and hot oil requirements up to 144 degrees Celsius, a CHP unit built with the MAN E0836 LE302 natural gas engine was proposed. At the assumed site altitude, the unit will have a maximum electrical output of 80kWe / 100 kVA with 42kWt. The technical details and business case of this project will be shared at a later stage.
To provide for the electrical requirements and hot oil requirements up to 160 degrees Celsius, a CHP unit built with the MAN E2676 LE202 natural gas engine is proposed. At the assumed site altitude, the unit will have a maximum electrical output of 160kWe / 201 kVA with 105kWt. The technical details and business case of this project will be shared at a later stage.
